Peru has highest consumer confidence in Latin America

09:15 | Lima, Aug. 27.

Peru registered the highest consumer confidence in the region in the second quarter of 2019, scoring 106 points, Nielsen has reported.

According to its June 2019 report, the Inca country maintains a growing macroeconomic outlook, as GDP is expected to expand 3.2% this year, the highest figure in Latin America.

"The reduction of certain concerns (…) is among the factors that underpinned this rise," the data analytics company expressed.

Sale Channels

According to Nielsen, although pharmacy sales posted a greater increase, compared to other sale channels, this growth was purely boosted by the cosmetic and toiletry basket.

Likewise, it indicated the expansion registered in provinces is higher than that of Lima.

However, Lima is currently recovering and reaches a positive trend for the first time this year.

Supermarket chains

Furthermore, it pointed out one significant factor is the migration of consumption from traditional channels to supermarkets.

"Month by month, we see how consumption in the traditional channel decreases, whereas self-service increases," Nielsen added.
